Capital Manor opens secure Memory Care
On July 1, 2010 Capital Manor received approval from Senior and People with Disabilities to offer services in a secure Memory Care setting. This endorsement from the state requires a facility to meet guidelines in addition to the operational rules for the existing facility level of care license.
Memory Care is a 15-bed specific, separate community within Manor Care (Capital Manor’s Residential Care Facility.) It was created to serve residents with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or other related dementia in a safe and secure environment. The purpose of the community is to foster success for each individual resident as they perform activities of daily living or engage in social activities.
Staff training emphasizes the need to treat each resident as a unique individual and to be aware of their unique interests and life experiences. When a resident can no longer provide direction, staff is required to provide care based on each resident's life long preferences and traditions. "While we were providing exceptional care for our residents with a dementia diagnosis already, this endorsement allows us continue that outstanding care in a secure and dignified setting," states Donna BreMiller, Administrator of Resident Health Care Services.
